5th May

I have heard of one fish caught on the Mourne today, water is falling away quickly, your best chance for a fish at the minute would be strabane as there will be fresh fish coming in and it fishes well when it's low.

The Finn still has no water, no rain forcast yet, but there again it may be worth a throw early morning as there's still fish about it.

I have been around a good bit of the six mile today when it was very warm and I seen a lot of trout rising everywhere I went and I was talking to a few anglers on the river today and they also have assured me that there's plenty about, so this has to be very good news for the six mile river.

4th May

River Mourne in perfect order today good few fresh fish seen, 2 fish caught last night one on the grevenue and one bay and no doubt there was fish caught on the low end this morning.

4lb and a 7lb caught on the Finn this morning water 10".

2nd May

Picture of one of my fish caught

The Mourne fished exceptionaly well today I managed to land a 10lber and released to more fish, I know of 2 other fish lost and 10 fish caught altogether today.

I havn't heard any reports from the Finn yet but don't think the water will be right until Sunday.

Fish caught at grevenue this morning 9lb on the fly, 2 caught on pergatory spinning, 1 caught on the burn spinning and 3 lost on the grevenue. Brilliant day get yourselves to the Mourne.

1st May

9lber caught today on the Mourne spinning, and another caught on the fly, there was also a 12lb caught on the spinner and a couple of fish lost also, but I'm sure there was more caught that I havn't heard of and the water's still good.

The Finn is low today it idn't get the water but hopefully the water is here for the weekend as it is forecast as I have a couple of clients for the beat on Sunday so we need the water.

30th April

I don't what these people are talking about that there's no fish on the Finn when I heard of 2 fish caught on it yesterday (from a reliable source) the Finn is one of the best rivers in Ireland, if not the best any true Finn man will tell you the same, it's one of these rivers that you have to hit at the right time, I don't know which I prefer the Finn or the Mourne as they are both damn good rivers.

The Finn was sitting at a foot today, I've had no reports of any fish yet, but I'm sure there was some caught somewhere.

The Mourne has been pretty high today, still in good order for the spinner and I know of one caught on paddy's, it should fish well tomorrow.

I was round a few places on the Six Mile
yesterday with the heat when there was sunny spells and I seen small trout rising in the long hole and a few bigger ones, I also seen them rising in Dunadry, school pool and down below the school pool, it is as far as I travelled but at least there's something still in the river. I have not heard of any detail about how the pollution happened, I heard of a 4lb brown trout caught on the lower end but I didn't see it so could be just rumours.

26th April

The river Finn was sitting at about a foot this evening and there was a mizzle of rain but not enough water yet but the Mourne seems to have got the water, it is pretty high and there was rain there all day, there was 2 got and 1 lost this morning, no reports of anything else but I think it will probably rise more, will up date tomorrow again.

25th April

The Mourne is up about a foot at Sion and has been since 6am it hasn't dropped or risen anymore no fish caught as yet, I have also heard the gates have to be shut for 6 weeks as there was a lot of kelts killed on the way back through the turbines so this should help the fishing up steam as the water was being toke of the weir stopped the fish going any further.

The Finn should be up at the weekend, it still will be the place to be as there is a lot of fish waiting to come in.

20th April

The Finn is very low but rain is expected this week so if it comes it's the place to be.

My sourceshave told me there has been a couple caught on the Mourne one on the fly and one on the spinner, I have also heard the Drowes is the place to be at the minute as there is a lot of fish about it.

17 April

There has been 1 or 2 fish caught on the Mourne every day but the water is still very cold and it needs more water.

The Finn is still low and is in need of water as there is a lot of fish lying down below waiting to come in. I have been talking to one of the men who owns the Finn and he has told me that they have done a lot of work on the anique beat like new stiles, trees cut back, this will make the parts of the river more accessible.

There is trout being caught on the Six mile so things might not be as bad as expected, certainly there will of been a lot of wee trout killed but there should be some big ones still around.

10 April

Not many anglers on the Mourne today so no reports of anything caught. The river is still very cold, we need a few warmer days to heat the water then things should change as there's a good few fish about.

09 April

There was a good few anglers on the Mourne today 1 report of 1 fish hooked and lost up until 4.30 today, the water's still very cold, you would need to fish deep to catch a fish. I will be on the river tomorrow so I'll have more information then.

I have been on the Six Mile yesterday and today, I have seen trout rising at Dunadry, the back wall at the school pool, the BMC and Riverside in Antrim so there seems to be some sort of life about but only time will tell.

There was a foor and half of water came down the Finn yesterday, it fished exceptionally well yesterday afternoon, I have heard of 12 fish got.

08 April

The Mourne is just coming into good order today, there was 3 salmon caught today that I know of, this is a sign of more fish coming in off the big tides, should fish well tomorrow.

07 April

The Mourne is up about a foot and a half and there was 3 fish caught on the strabane water yesterday.

06 April

Sorry havn't been reporting much but I'm in the middle of moving house so I will just try and update when I can.

The river Finn has been quiet this last few days I've only heard of 1 or 2, I heard of a 4lb grillse which I find hard to believe but it's very small for a spinger, possably it was a kipper.

The Mourne has got off to a fantastic start as expected, I know of 3 16lb salmon caught, 3 13lb, a few 10lb, I havn't heard of anything caught smaller than 8lb. I was on the river yesterday, the water was in very good order but the fish just wouldn't take I think it was a bit too cold, the north wind killed it. I was talking to a fella yesterday and he walked from strabane to sion and seen 1 fish caught 12lb, there is fish all over the river, there's fish being caught at paddy's, the gravenue, purgatory, behind the mill, the wood hole, black rock and strabane.

I have been to the six mile a couple of times and have seen no fish rising.

28th March

Still getting good reports on the Finn, 16lb fish caught yesterday and 15lb caught last Friday, 10lb fish caught and 12lb fish caught. The Finn is in a big big flood today, up round Cloughan will fish really well tomorrow, there's a lot of fish in the low end have been waiting for this water.

The Mourne is creeping up now, will be good water for the 1st.

27th March

Just back from hols so here's an update.
Getting reports from various sources that there's fish caught on the Finn today and also at the weekend. I heard of 2 caught at the pott, 1 at Glenmore bridge and 1 at Mcginnty's. Rain forcast, so should fish well at the weekend or start of the week, just in time for the Mourne opening, the Mourne is in good order at the minute so I wouldn't be suprised if there's a few fish caught on the first day as the temperature is up a bit.

I have heard of trout rising on the six mile but I find it hard to believe, I am only back from holiday so I find out soon for myself if this is true or not.

21st March

The Finn is very high this morning, it's about 4 1/2 ft at Cloughan Lodge, if it's keep topped up it should fish well tomorrow but it's to be very cold, there is a lot of big fish about at the minute, if your fly or spinner is in the right spot at the right time you should have something decent on the end of your line he he he he!

20th March

The fish in the Six Mile are dead from Templepatrick to as far as Antrim, loads of dollaghan, salmon par and trout, so i don't think the trout popullation will ever return, I know someone who had been out fishing for trout before the pollution and was catching plenty of trout between 1/2lb and 1lb, he then returned a week after the pollution and caught nothing so that says it all, it shouldn't affect the usual run of fish this year and there is a lot of fish which made it up to their spawning beds, at least that's something to look forward to as the main river's dead. We've had a fair bit of water so most of the pollution should be washed out by now, so we'll have to look forward to the middle of July.

18th March

I hear there was a lovely fish caught on the Finn on Sunday on the fly it was 17lb with sea lice falling off, and there was 3 that I've heard off today but the water is very low, there's rain forcast for Thursday which should push more fish up.

Please check out my flies to buy section as I've added some more new patterns.

15th March

There was 2 fish caught at the foot bridge on the Finn today and 2 on the beat, 1 at Glenmore and 1 at Glenmore bridge and also heard of a few other but don't know for definate might only be rumours. Some one caught a fish on a fly I tied the other day called the orange delights.

There's been fish recorded on the Mourne already and there has been for the past month, this is my favourite river and I'm looking forward to the 1st April so I can try out my new patterns of cone heads as I am getting reports that they are catching fish in England.

14th March

The Finn is high today and it's still raining, should be fish caught tomorrow.

The Six Mile is very high today and there's still white froth coming down it.

12th March

The Finn was very high this morning but ran off in the afternoon, but I havn't heard of any fish being caught of yet.

11th March

Heavy showers at the Finn today, I hear there was one fish caught.

Six Mile is still very high so we can't tell the full damage that has been done will keep you updated. I believe the ticket sales will be away down this year as there will be nothing to fish for. I think this is a shambles as the pollution was known about since last week and nothing was done about it. If your still wanting to fish the Six Mile I would give it ago above Templepatrick.

10th March

Rivers are very high today and there's no sign of dropping as more storms are predicted.

No news yet about the pollution on the Six Mile but it is expected thousands of fish have died, I don't know if it'll ever recover, I will update when I know more, the pollution was known about on Friday but the fish weren't killed until Sunday, to my knowledge there was a sample taken from the river but it wasn't taken by an expert so things don't look good for the river at the minute.

9th March

Six Mile

There are hundreds of fish lying dead this morning due to some sort of pollution, thats all I've heard will report more when I hear.

The Finn

3 Fish have been caught on the Finn this morning don't have any other details at the minute, I am heading to the show in Londonderry so I will report when I come back.

7th March

Sorry havn't updated but I've been away for a few days.

The rivers are rising 4 fish caught on the Finn since I've been away. Feel free to email me with any questions at www.gamefishingireland@yahoo.com

3rd March

The final count for Saturday was 9 springers caught on the Finn, and there was 2 caught on the graveyard yesterday and from what I've heard there was 1 caught today, this is a good start to the Spring run.

The Finn
River still in good order, very cold I think the best chance of catching one today would be on the spinner.

1st March

Six Mile

This sees the start of the season on the Six Mile and I have been down today looking at the river and have spotted a few anglers with a few trout, I will keep you updated.

The Finn

My source for the Finn tell me that there have been a few salmon caught today  two at glenmore 7lb and 10lb and one at the footbridge of 12lb. I will defianetley be making my way down this week and I will post a detailed report.
